Rotary Young Chef was held at Romsey School on Wednesday 4th November.

Twelve pupils of Romsey School took part in the first round of Rotary Young Chef. A National competition with over 4,000 taking part last year, in which young people of 17 and under from schools across Great Britain and Ireland tantalise the taste buds.

The competitors selected and cooked their own choice of starter and main course, costing no more than £10 and presented it, on a table for two set by them, to the judges. Professional chefs Kurt Newman, from Southampton City College and Sarah Edom, who many will know from The Old House at Home in Love Lane had the unenviable task of selecting a winner. After tasting and much deliberation the first place went to Jeo Coakley with runner up Tahriul Tarafdar.

Joe, who lives in Romsey, wowed the judges with his tasty two course meal of Thai Chicken & Sweetcorn Soup with homemade bread rolls followed by Hot & Tangy Lamb. This dish consisted of minced lamb with mixed vegetables in a spicy, zesty sauce with Thai jasmine rice. Both judges were totally impressed by the wide range of dishes that were presented before them and said ‘ contestants have a good future ahead of them should they choose to go into catering’.

Both Joe and Tahriul go through to a Rotary Group Final to be held at Test Valley School, Stockbridge on Wednesday 25th November.

The event was organised by The Rotary Club of Romsey Test with a great deal of help from members of the staff of Romsey School.
